Tragedy in Bahrein Claims Life of Local Man - Comment

Local MP Chris McCafferty has said that her sympathy and thoughts go out to the family and friends of all the victims of the tragedy in Bahrein, but particularly to the family of local father Stephen Grady.

Chris said, "I have been in touch with the Foreign Office to make sure that everything possible is being done to help and support Mr Grady's family in their loss, and in ensuring the necessary arrangements are made promptly and sympathetically.

"I understand that the Foreign Office have been in touch with the family and will keep contact with them to offer support and information whenever they need it. I have also bee informed that the companies involved are arranging for families to fly out to Bahrein if they wish to do so.

"I have been in touch with the family to offer my sympathy and support, and to make it clear that I will give them every assistance if they feel they need further help from the Foreign Office."

1. The Foreign Office have set up a response centre to help the families of British victims of the tragedy. They have deployed a specialist team in Bahrein to help identify UK citizens and establish cause of death. This team will be working to UK Coroner's standards.

2. There is also a further team of seven diplomatic staff assisting, with the support of two trained Red Cross counsellors.
